LOIR

Doctor Faustus

Series · 1947

Adrian Leverkühn has lived through music since his youth, striving to create a work capable of expressing what traditional culture could no longer express. His path leads from musical education and intellectual pursuits toward an increasingly radical understanding of artistic creation. An encounter with a mysterious stranger results in a pact that becomes a turning point in his life. Given the opportunity to fulfill his artistic ambitions, Leverkühn is forced to confront the consequences of his choice. His fate becomes intertwined with the history of Germany in the first half of the twentieth century, transforming the story of a composer into a complex meditation on creativity, freedom, faith, madness, and the spiritual crisis of European culture.
